Parenting School and its Labor Consequences

Rubén M. Castillo Gill

"School for Parents", the program that seeks to link the PASE-U payment to students.

We have received inquiries as to whether companies are required to grant leave to employees to attend meetings related to the "School for All" program of the Ministry of Education.

There is no regulation covering this type of leave, much less its remuneration.

In practice, schools are issuing attendance certificates which may be considered a form of justification but does not determine the obligation of payment.

On the other hand, it is necessary to regulate the period of anticipation with which the request for the corresponding permit must be submitted, since the company must have the time to reorganize the production process for the day in question.

This issue must be handled very carefully, since the payment of the subsidy, called PASE-U, depends on the permit. We understand that there are initiatives to regulate this permit.

We will follow up on this situation.
